The midnight sun

The sun is referred to as the midnight sun when it is still visible above the horizon in areas north of the Arctic Circle in summer, even at the time of the lowest point in its daily path in the sky (midnight). The summer solstice is on June 21st. At the Arctic Circle, the sun is visible 24 hours a day from June 12th to July 1st. Slagnäs is just south of the Arctic Circle, so the midnight sun can also be seen from the surrounding mountains. On June 21, the sun is not visible above the horizon in Slagnäs for a full 52 minutes - sunrise is at 1:15 am and sunset is at 12:23 am.
